At B Local, our focus is amplification, collaboration, and supporting fellow B Corps with a mandate to do good as we do well.

LAT Multilingual is the next in our Spotlight series with a goal to promote B Local member businesses, as well as bolster greater community through shared learning and experiences.

Talk to us about your WHY. Why a purpose driven business and why the pursuit of B Corp?

In an increasingly diverse society, LAT believes different communities need to be able to understand each other more than ever.

This is where LAT comes in: Our translation, adaptation and multicultural marketing services help brands build bridges. Doing so demonstrates their willingness to recognize and honour cultural and social diversity.

At LAT, we believe that we all have a role to play in shaping a more equitable and sustainable world. Every project we take on is an opportunity to promote diversity, cultural understanding, and meaningful communication, all of which align with our core values.

Being B Corp certified is a way for us to officialize and formalize our commitment to doing business for good.

From the way we support our teams and partners to the choices we make around sustainability and ethical business practices, B Corp provides us with a framework to measure and enhance our impact.

Is there a B Corp or B Corp leader that you look up to? Explain.

TallGrass Natural Health became a B Corp in 2016 and has always maintained a focus on its founding values: a commitment to the environment and social responsibility. The founder, Matt Breech, has weathered many storms over the years. but managed to keep the company’s focus on fostering a holistic approach to wellness. TallGrass has been a client of ours since 2014.

LAT has also been a member of the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA), which Matthew helped create. His passion for natural health products has inspired us to nurture an ever-widening client base in the health food and products industry.

What does being a B Corp mean to you? To your team? To your customers?

Being a B Corp validates our commitment to ethical business practices, and this is reflected in the way we treat our team members and our customers, in our daily decisions, in our sustainability measures, and in our quality standards. Our B Corp certification allows us to display those values and seek out like-minded businesses so that we can collectively have a positive impact.

B Corp is not just a certification—it is a mindset that guides how we operate, collaborate, and support communities.

For us as a team, the B Corp certification reflects that we work for a humane company. We prioritize people, equity, and impact over profit alone. It gives us a sense of purpose to know our work makes a difference.

For our clients, they can take pride in having a business partner who cares about quality, ethical practices and social responsibility.

Can you share a specific example of how your company values have shaped your business practices or decision-making process?

A key example is our remote-first work environment. It reflects our values of equity and sustainability. Long before the pandemic, we prioritized remote work arrangements to reduce our carbon footprint, support work-life balance, and allow us to hire diverse talent regardless of location. Our goal was to ensure our team thrives while staying true to our commitment to people and the planet.

Another example is our recruiting process. We conduct blind tests for our translators to counter personal bias and evaluate the abilities of our candidates objectively. Those tests do not take into account the gender, race, sexual orientation or age of our candidates. Moreover, for us, having an accent or being a “visible minority” is not seen as a disadvantage. We believe that diversity among our team members contributes to the cultural and linguistic knowledge essential to the services we provide.
