B Corp + 1% for the Planet = B1
B1 refers to companies that have achieved both B Corp Certification and membership in 1% for the Planet—representing a particularly strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
Companies holding both designations are essentially doubling down on their values—they're operating responsibly across all stakeholders while also making significant financial contributions to environmental causes. Examples of such companies include Patagonia (though they've since transferred ownership to a trust and nonprofit), New Belgium Brewing (before being acquired), and various other mission-driven businesses in outdoor gear, food, beauty, and professional services.
These companies often see this combination as mutually reinforcing: the B Corp framework ensures they're building a responsible business holistically, while 1% for the Planet ensures direct financial impact on environmental issues. It's particularly common among outdoor recreation, sustainable food and beverage, and eco-conscious consumer product companies where environmental values are central to brand identity.
